As part of the Erasmus+ Bit the Spectrum , project, co-funded by the European Union proj.no: 2021-1-DE02-KA220-VET-000033091, IRSEI ETS is proud to announce the beginning of its collaboration with the Associazione Coltivare Bio naturale of Palermo, which will offer its own experiential and educational expertise and skills free of charge and on a non-profit basis to support the development of an augmented reality exercise. Thanks to their direct experience with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), the Association’s staff will contribute significantly, through specific consultations on students’ needs and requirements, to the achievement of the Bit the Spectrum project’s objectives.

Consultations will be essential to enable Bit the Spectrum partners to design and implement a virtual reality exercise, tailored to meet the specific needs of the association’s students and soon to be available free of charge to anyone who wants to use it. The association’s initiatives are diverse, including the Oikos project, a socio-educational pathway that consists of various activities such as cooking workshops and self-development workshops. The goals pursued in the Oikos activities are integration, socialisation and increased autonomy, in line with the objectives of the Bit the Spectrum project to enhance the social emotional skills of students with Special Educational Needs. For this reason, it was decided to develop an exercise to replicate and guide the preparation of a pasta dish, to reinforce a key action in everyday life.

This exercise will be developed based on observations and evaluations provided by the Association’s staff, who work closely with the students daily.

The exercise in VR will consist of several steps:

  1. Learning how to select food from the pantry according to needs
  2. Choosing the correct utensils for meal preparation
  3. Follow the steps for cooking a pasta dish
  4. Actually prepare the pasta dish

The virtual reality exercise is planned as a project outcome and will be in addition to other virtual reality exercises being developed by partners: OVGU University from Germany, SkillsDivers from Spain, Luovi College from Finland and experts in the development of virtual reality environments 3DBear, also from Finland.

In addition, social interactions will be integrated to further strengthen the students’ autonomy and independence skills.

IRSEI would like to warmly thank the Associazione Coltivare Bio Naturale for its valuable contribution to create an innovative and impactful educational experience for the students involved. Thanks to the exercise in VR, which will be added to those under development, it will be possible to effectively meet the needs of the students involved through the national associations, and thanks to their support, it will subsequently be made available to a wider audience!
